Apples promote good health

An apple a day, keeps the doctor away is an old adage. Apples have been known for their excellent health benefits and their beneficial effects on human well being as early as the ancient Greeks and Romans. Research studies show that apples provide a rich source of immune boosting Vitamin C, soluble fibers, beta-carotene, minerals, antioxidants and vitamins. All these ingredients help promote good health. A medium sized apple contains a good mix of soluble fiber with low calories, making it a filling fruit and satisfying hunger for a few calories. So it’s an excellent fruit as part of a dieting regimen too.

Here are some proven health benefits of apples:

1. Promoting Digestive Health

The presence of soluble fiber in apples, makes it a fruit of choice for maintaining good digestive health. In addition to this it has also been found that apples have curative properties against the negative effects of radiotherapy and helps the body to get rid of toxic elements and heavy metals like aluminum. Also including apples in regular diet greatly reduces the chance of gallstones. Also apples have beneficial effects on diabetes and obesity inspite of the fact that apples are naturally sweet.

2. Healing Effects against Asthma and Inflammations

Several epidemiological studies have been carried out on apple and its benefits. It has been found that the anti oxidant compounds found in this fruit helps in inhibiting inflammation and promotes healing of asthma. It also has beneficial effects in healing other inflammatory diseases of digestive and respiratory tract.

3. Promoting heart health by lowering cholesterol and c-reactive protein

Experts believe that the anti oxidants in apple, help inhibit the bad cholesterol (LDL) from oxidising, thereby preventing the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Oxidisation of cholesterol deposits is believed to be the key trigger for heart attacks. Also the soluble fiber in apples are also known to have cholesterol lowering properties. Also c-reactive protein, a well known marker for inflammation of heart, is known to go down with increased apple consumption

4. Anti aging benefits

Apple is a wholesome fruit and none of its part is waste. Even the peel of apple is very useful. It contains antioxidants and is rich in nutrients. Apple peels are particularly beneficial in slowing down the body from aging fast. Apple also fights the cancer causing substances in our bodies.

5. Promotes healthy Skin:

A healthy skin requires essential nutrients like iron, calcium and anti-oxidants. Although all fruits are believed to promote health and nourishment required for the overall development, apples are considered the best to promote healthy skin and deliver the associated benefits that come with a healthy skin.

5. Helps endure exercises:

A special anti oxidant compound in apple called ‘Quercetin’ is believed to deliver more oxygen to the lungs. So if an apple is taken before exercise, it is believed to increase the endurance capability and make a person do workouts for longer with less work out stress.

Closing thoughts:

If you want to improve your overall health, increase the portions of fruits in your diet. However you must make sure to improve your overall diet and not to rely on fruits entirely. Also consume fresh fruits grown organically. Avoid canned fruits. Canned fruits are soaked in high corn starch and sugar syrup that has a high concentration of sugar and other preservatives leading to increase risk of diabetes.

Make sure you take an apple a day, to promote good health. Although, it is firmly believed that an apple a day keeps the doctor away, it is about taking care of your overall health that really matters.
